Lanzarote – island of fire, sunshine and holidays with character

A unique Canary island for everyone who wants more than a break by the sea — direct flights from Zagreb, Timanfaya, La Geria, beaches, hotels and golf.

Papagayo beach on Lanzarote — turquoise sea and volcanic coast

A unique Canary island for everyone who wants more than just a break by the sea.

On Lanzarote black lava meets white architecture, golden bays meet the turquoise Atlantic, and the silence of the volcanic landscape meets the buzz of welcoming seaside resorts. This is not an island that tries to win you over with luxury at every step. Its real luxury is space: for calm, movement, good food, sunshine and the feeling that for a few days you have stepped out of your everyday rhythm.

Lanzarote is therefore an excellent choice for couples, families, active travellers and anyone missing light and warmth in winter. Thanks to its mild, dry climate it is appealing all year round, and in summer it offers a more pleasant alternative to the hottest Mediterranean destinations. The island is small enough to explore comfortably by car, and varied enough to reveal a completely different face each day.

Direct flights from Zagreb – Lanzarote is closer than it seems

For travellers from Slovenia, the most practical option at the moment is the direct connection from Zagreb. In the 2026 summer season Ryanair flies to Lanzarote every Friday from 3 April to 23 October, with a flight time of about 4 hours and 45 minutes. In the autumn-winter season 2026/2027 direct departures are planned on Tuesdays and Saturdays through most of the season, from 27 October 2026 to the final Saturday flight on 27 March 2027. There is currently no direct flight from Ljubljana.

Treviso near Venice can be an additional option, especially for winter dates, when a direct connection is expected to return from 28 October 2026. Because airlines change their schedules, at Longevity Travel we always verify current dates, baggage prices and the best combination for your travel window before preparing an offer.

Why is Lanzarote so different?

Its character was shaped by volcanoes. Years of eruptions in the 18th century created vast lava fields, craters and coloured layers of earth that still look almost otherworldly. Lanzarote has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1993, and since 2015, together with the Chinijo archipelago, also a UNESCO Global Geopark. This protection is not merely a title but a commitment to a careful balance between nature, local life and tourism.

The visual identity of the island was largely defined by artist and architect César Manrique. He believed architecture must not dominate the landscape but adapt to it. The result is low white buildings, considered green and blue details, and artistic spaces that grow out of the lava. This is why Lanzarote, despite its popularity, retains a clean, calm and highly recognisable character.

Timanfaya – the heart of the volcanic island

Timanfaya National Park is an experience not to be missed. Among the Fire Mountains you look out over copper, red and black craters and solidified lava flows. The central part of the park is explored along an organised bus route to protect the fragile environment, and the visit is complemented by geothermal demonstrations. At the El Diablo restaurant dishes are prepared with heat from within the earth – not over flowing lava, but using the residual geothermal energy of the volcanic area.

Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes and the view towards La Graciosa

In the north of the island, the eruption of the Corona volcano created an extensive system of lava tubes. At Jameos del Agua, Manrique transformed the underground natural setting into an elegant cultural space with a lake, gardens and a concert hall. In nearby Cueva de los Verdes you step deeper into the island's geological story, while the Mirador del Río viewpoint opens up a view of La Graciosa and the Chinijo archipelago. Design lovers should not miss the Jardín de Cactus and the Fundación César Manrique in Tahíche.

From volcanic vineyards to the finest beaches

La Geria is one of the most surprising wine landscapes in Europe. Each vine grows in a funnel-shaped hollow of black volcanic gravel, sheltered from the wind by a low semicircular stone wall. This ingenious method of cultivation allows the distinctive Malvasía Volcánica variety to thrive. A stop at one of the local bodegas, such as the historic El Grifo winery, is a lovely way to experience the landscape through taste as well.

When you long for the sea, very different beaches await. The Papagayo bays in the south impress with pale sand and usually calmer water. Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo in Playa Blanca are comfortable choices for families, while the long, windy Famara beneath mighty cliffs attracts surfers, photographers and lovers of long walks. Lanzarote is not an island of one perfect beach – its beauty lies precisely in the contrasts.

Where to stay? Selected hotels for different holiday styles

Our selection on Lanzarote is not the largest – and that is deliberate. We do not want to be a catalogue of every option, but to prepare a considered selection. We work with a trusted partner in the Canary Islands, so beyond the hotels on our website we can also check other quality properties and build an offer around your dates, budget and travel style.

  • Hipotels La Geria – right by Playa de los Pocillos; an excellent choice for the beach, all inclusive and an active holiday.
  • Seaside Los Jameos – Canarian character, subtropical gardens, pools and a good offer for families.
  • Hipotels Natura Palace – a quiet 16+ hotel by the Atlantic, suited to couples and relaxation.
  • Vitalclass Lanzarote Sports & Wellness Resort – for guests who want to combine holiday, movement, swimming, wellness and recovery.
  • THB Tropical Island – a versatile family resort in Playa Blanca with a rich offer of pools and water fun.
  • La Casona de Yaiza – a boutique hotel in a historic house for a quieter, more authentic island experience.
  • El Grifo – an intimate wine retreat in a small country hotel near one of the island's oldest wineries.

One holiday, two islands: a trip to Fuerteventura

From Playa Blanca a fast ferry reaches Corralejo on Fuerteventura in roughly 25–35 minutes. Lanzarote enchants with lava, craters, art and picturesque bays; Fuerteventura with long bright beaches, dunes and a more open, almost desert-like landscape. In a single day you can visit the Corralejo dunes nature park, Grandes Playas, the fishing village of El Cotillo or the turquoise lagoons in the north of the island.

Ferries run several times a day, and on some connections cars can be transported too. Before departure it is necessary to check the current timetable and the terms of your rental agreement, as not all providers allow a rented vehicle to be taken to another island. At Longevity Travel we can help coordinate tickets, car hire and the most sensible route for the excursion.

Lanzarote all year round – for rest or an active escape

In winter daytime temperatures often hover around a pleasant 20 to 22 °C, and in summer around 27 to 29 °C. The Atlantic is warmest in late summer and early autumn, though swimming is possible for most of the year. Thanks to the wind, dry air and many sunny days, the island is popular with cyclists, runners, hikers, surfers, divers, triathletes and golfers. It works equally well for a completely simple plan: a long breakfast, a walk by the ocean, a good book and enough time for yourself.

Golf on Lanzarote – playing between volcanoes and the Atlantic

Lanzarote is also appealing for golf holidays all year round. The island has two par 72 courses with 18 holes: Lanzarote Golf near Puerto del Carmen, set into the volcanic landscape with views towards the Atlantic, and Costa Teguise Golf, marked by palms, lagoons and the contrast of fairways against the dark lava landscape. The most pleasant playing conditions are usually from October to April, while in summer we recommend morning tee times. Longevity Travel can prepare a complete golf package with a direct flight from Zagreb, golf bag transport, private transfers, a four-star hotel and four or five green fees. We also arrange tee time bookings and local logistics, so you can focus on the game and the break.

Why visit Lanzarote with Longevity Travel?

Because a good trip is not made up of a flight and a hotel alone. What matters is which resort suits your rhythm, whether you need a quiet hotel for two or a family resort, which beach best matches your wishes and how much exploring you want to include. At Longevity Travel we check flight connections, accommodation, transfers or car hire, and suggest experiences that match you.

Lanzarote is not a destination you simply visit. It is an island that, with its light, silence and elemental landscape, reminds you how good it feels to truly stop. Send us your dates, the number of travellers and your wishes – we will prepare a personal proposal for a sunny holiday on the island of fire.
