Africa never hurries. Neither do we. The train moves through untouched land like a pen through verse.

Everything you should know

Citizens of Slovenia and the EU do not need a visa for South Africa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days after departure and have at least two blank pages. Children also require an Unabridged Birth Certificate in English. Our concierge handles all formalities.
No vaccinations are mandatory for the standard parts of the journey (Pretoria, Cape Town, the Garden Route, Sun City, Drakensberg). Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for Kruger and Hluhluwe areas — your physician will prescribe it. Yellow fever vaccination is only required if you enter South Africa from an endemic country.
Smart casual during the day. For dinner guests dress up — jacket or shirt with tie for men, cocktail dress for ladies. One formal (black tie) dinner is held during each journey, so bring a tuxedo or dark suit. Practical clothing and footwear for safari excursions are also recommended.
Each guest has storage in the suite for one medium and one cabin bag. Large cases are stored in the train's hold. The flight portion follows standard airline rules (typically 23 kg + cabin). The concierge provides a precise packing list in advance.
Rovos Rail accepts children from 10 years old; younger guests only with a private carriage charter. The programme is designed for adult couples and small private groups — the atmosphere is quiet, formal and refined.
Rovos Rail is intentionally WiFi-free in suites and public areas — part of its digital-disconnect philosophy. Mobile coverage depends on the route. The concierge is reachable 24/7 via the train's satellite phone in case of emergency.
Included: all nights in the chosen suite, all meals on board, selected drinks (wine, beer, spirits), all safari excursions and stops, ground transport, station fees. Not included: international flights (Ljubljana/Zagreb–Johannesburg/Cape Town), travel insurance, gratuities, personal expenses and golf green fees (priced as a separate line item).
The most pleasant season is April to October (South African winter — dry, sunny, ideal for safari). November–March is warmer and greener but can be rainy. Rovos Rail operates year-round; we recommend May/June or September/October for the best balance of weather, wildlife visibility and occupancy.
Flights from Ljubljana or Zagreb are arranged with leading carriers (Lufthansa, KLM, Turkish, Emirates). Transfers to Capital Park station in Pretoria and in Cape Town are private, with a driver and concierge escort. Everything is arranged by your private advisor.
